Bylaws of the Lake County Green Party

Article I. Name

1.1—The name of this local will be The Lake County Green Party

Article II. Purpose and Value

2.1—Mission Statement

The purpose of this organization shall be to work toward a just and sustainable Green society, as represented by the Ten Key Values of the Green Party:

  • Ecological Wisdom
  • Community-based Economics
  • Social Justice
  • Feminism
  • Grassroots Democracy
  • Respect for Diversity
  • Non violence
  • Personal and Global Responsibility
  • Decentralization
  • Future Focus

2.2—Activities and Practices

We work in support of local candidates who embody the Ten Key Values. We work to build a more just and representative political system through electoral reforms, such as proportional representation and instant runoff voting. We work in coalition with others for social and political change, including, but not limited to, grassroots community groups and progressive local businesses.

2.3—Defined Geographic Area

The Illinois county of Lake as defined by its political boundaries.

Article III. Membership & Participation

3.1—Membership

The Lake County Green Party is open to anyone, regardless of age, race, color, national origin, spiritual belief, gender, sexual orientation, or physical challenge who pays dues or files for a waiver for exchange of services. In order to be a member, it is necessary to be in general agreement with the Ten Key Values and the bylaws of the Lake County Green Party.

3.2—Members in Good Standing

Upon joining the Lake County Green Party, an active member shall be in good standing with full voting privileges upon attending a second general membership meeting held within a three month time period.

3.3—Local Dues

Local dues shall be established when seen as necessary by the membership of the Lake County Green Party.

Article IV. Meetings

4.1 Meetings

The Lake County Green Party shall hold meetings at least once per month. These meetings shall be open to all members. Notice of meetings will be e-mailed to group members, posted on the group’s web site, and made available to the public by whatever else means available.

Article V. Officers and Representatives

5.1—Officers

The Lake County Green Party shall elect a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, and IGP Coordinating Council Representative. This election shall take place yearly at a membership meeting. Officers shall be elected by a majority vote of members in good standing.

Article VI. Decisions

6.1—Decision

The Lake County Green Party shall seek agreement on all decisions, hearing all views and concerns in full. Where consensus cannot be reached, decisions by all members of the Lake County Greens shall be approved on a vote by simply majority. Votes on decisions affecting the group can only be made when a quorum of at least half of the membership in good standing is present.

Article VII. Amendments

7.1—Amendments to these Bylaws may be adopted by a majority vote conducted during a general membership meeting.
